1. Care packages for our troops
As you know, Mrs. Dottie Bass has coordinated a care package to go to our troops and will be mailing it off this Wednesday. If you have any items you would like to donate to our troops, please drop them off in our donation box by the waiting area no later than Tuesday after school.

The troop we are supporting has very austere living conditions with no laundry service and uses Christmas lights for overhead lighting. They have no running water and very little electricity. They use a bucket to wash clothes and sun-showers to bathe. There is also one microwave amongst the 30 of them and they have no refrigerators of freezers. Many soldiers have said that pictures of home area very special to receive to remind them what it looks like. Most of the members of this unit are from Colorado so if you want to include pictures of Colorado, you are welcome to do so. You are not limited to the items on the list, but these are examples of things they’ve asked for in the past. You may include any other items you think they might need.

Miscellaneous items: Christmas lights, insect repellent, mosquito nets, personal hygiene items (men only), baby wipes, M-L tan t-shirts, M-L hiking socks, board or card games.

Food items: NOTHING GUMMY OR CHOCOLATE, beef jerky, non-perishable items, candy, cookies, powdered drink mixes, any nuts.

2. Parent Teacher Conferences
Thank you for attending our parent teacher conferences on Wednesday. If you have additional questions or concerns regarding your student’s grades or general class performance, please feel free to contact us. We are always happy to speak with you.

3. Open Houses
Our next two Open Houses will be THIS Tuesday, November 10th at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 14th at 10 a.m. Please encourage any interested families to come visit with us then. We would appreciate your attendance at either Open House.

4. Scrip Program
Please find a printed Scrip order form in you boxes and start ordering your gift cards. If you have any questions regarding the program or if there are any vendors you would like to purchase a card from but do not see it on the list, please let us know. We’ll be happy to check on any unlisted vendors. The original list was six pages long and Meg Schenk edited our list to include only the vendors in Colorado.

We need a volunteer to take care of the bookkeeping for this program. If you are interested in helping us with this, please let Dolores or Meg know as soon as possible. Thank you.

5. Lego League Competition
Our FIRST Lego League competition is THIS Saturday, November 14th. It would be great to see a large support group for our Lego League team. So, if you can carve out some time that Saturday, please mark your calendars and head off to Colorado Springs with us to cheer for our team!

6. Original Works
Our Original Works order came in and your items are in your boxes. Thank you for participating!

7. Thanksgiving Break
Our Thanksgiving Break is from Wednesday, November 25th through Friday, November 27th. Enjoy.

Monday: Jett’s Catering

1. Open House – The Open House on Tuesday went well. We would like to thank Doren Day, Kris Kuchenbrod, Jake, Nani and Emma Ciafone, Beth Moreau and Dottie Bass for helping set up and attend the Open House.

2. Mailing – We would like to thank Diane and Bill Henry for reprinting our mailing cards and for coordinating with the mailing company to make sure our Open House invitations went out on time. Any donation to cover this and future mailings would be greatly appreciated. This latest mailing also announced our next two Open Houses scheduled for Tuesday, November 10 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 14 at 10 a.m. Please mark your calendars for these dates and try to attend or volunteer to help set up for these events. Potential new parents appreciate information from the perspective of current parents and students about the school.

3. Jump Rope for Heart – Our Jump Rope for Heart event last on Tuesday was a success. Students must have raised a respectable amount of money, judging by the amount of cream pies they got to throw at Mrs. Bass! We jumped rope, played tug-a-war and a number of other games to keep our hearts pumping. Even Owen’s mom, Mrs. Kyte, and his younger sister, Robin, got in on the activities of the day. For those of you who earned some prices, Mrs. Bass is diligently working on getting those for you and will hand them out as soon as they mail them to us.

4. Work due on Monday – Any work that may have been due this Thursday the 15th or Friday the 16th, will be due on Monday the 26th when we get back from Fall Break.

5. Report Cards / Showcase – Report Cards will be out on Tuesday, November 3. Our School Showcase will also be that Tuesday at 7 p.m. Please mark your calendars and attend this function. It is great to see a sampling of what our students have been up to this quarter.

6. Parent Teacher Conferences – Our Parent Teacher Conferences will be on Thursday, November 5th. Dolores will be setting up appointments with as many or as few teachers you may want to speak with if your student has a “B” or above. Conferences will be mandatory for students making a “C” or below in any class.

7. Halloween Party – Our Halloween Party will be held on Friday, October 30. All students should wear a costume but please don’t make it too bloody or too bare. There will be a sign up sheet for food and beverages by the family boxes on Monday the 26th.

8. Lego League Competition – Our FIRST Lego League Robotics Southern Colorado Region competition will be held on Saturday, November 14th in Colorado Springs. Please come join us and cheer for our team! Lego League participants will tentatively have practice next Thursday or Friday. Mr. Nalls will be finalizing the time with you.

9. Drama Play – Our School Play is scheduled for December 15th and 16th in the evening. It will be held at the “Theater of Dreams” a few blocks south of us on Park St. Please make plans to attend.

10. Scrip Program - Thanks to Meg Schenk, our Scrip Program will be up and running by the time we come back from break. Please look for the order forms and ask for details at the front office and start ordering your cards!

Thank you and see you on the 26th!
