1. PTO Meeting

Our PTO meeting went well this past Tuesday. Thanks to those who attended; Shar Jordan, Doren Day, Jim and Trisha Gance and Diana Shilling. Several items were reviewed, including the survey results, especially, better communication regarding tests, homework and large project due dates. We also discussed marketing, '09-'10 enrollment packets, Summer Workshops and other ideas to make Woodlands even better for next year. We will post the full Meeting Minutes this week or in our next Owl. Your re-enrollment forms will be in your boxes this week.

2. Showcase

Thanks to all of you who attended our Student Showcase despite the weather! We had a great turnout and hope you had a wonderful time viewing your children’s work.

3. Open House

Please remember our next Open House / Info. Night is THIS Thursday, April 23rd at 7 p.m. If you know of any families interested in attending Woodlands next year, please encourage them to visit us then. Thank you.

4. Depression Lock-in

In coordination with their history class, Middle School students will be having their Depression Era Lock-in right after the Open House on Thursday, April 23rd. They will be dressed in Depression Era clothes and make dishes from that time. Please ask your child if they need any specific items for their costumes or additional food items for that night.

5. No School April 24th

There will still be no school Friday, April 24th. We realize some of you have already made plans for that Friday and so we will stick to our schedule as planned.

6. Symphony

All students are invited to come to the Symphony on Tuesday, April 28th. We still need parents to help us with the drive to and from the Light Rail station off Lincoln and I-25 that morning and afternoon. The performance will be at 11:15 a.m., followed by lunch downtown. Permission slips were in your boxes last week. Please sign and return ASAP so we can figure out how many chaperones we may have room for.

Thanks to those of you who donated paper towels and forks last week. We greatly appreciated it!

8. Student Chores
Students received their new chore schedule this past week. A copy will be in your boxes by Monday. Most jobs don’t take more than five minutes. So, please help us with this small request to have our students partake in keeping THEIR school tidy on a daily basis by allowing them those few minutes at the end of the day to do their chore and get signed off. Remember that if they do not get signed off every day, they loose their Friday jean wearing privileges.

9. Donations
We are still in need of paper towel rolls and plastic forks. This should be the last time we run out for the year!

Thank you.

1. Ski Trip
We hope that all of those who participated in the ski trip and those of you who spent time with your families had a great time!

2. Report Cards
Report cards will come out by Wednesday of this week.

3. Survey
Your survey results prompted us to have a thorough staff meeting this past Tuesday. The main topic that came up was the lack of communication between teachers and parents, mostly regarding homework and projects due. Sometimes some large projects have overlapped, making it difficult for students to make the deadlines. To help with project planning, we now have a school calendar in the front office which will show all large projects due for all classes. This way, teachers can try not to overlap deadlines but it will also help parents and students remember when projects are due. Please realize, however, that many of these projects and deadlines are set with plenty of time for students to work on them. So, if students have two things due in one week, perhaps it would be in their best interest to start on them sooner than later.

For those of you who prefer checking our website, we will have the same calendar there by the end of this week. (April 10th)

Additionally, please know that all teachers are available to speak with you almost anytime you’d like. All you have to do is call us and make sure that the teacher you would like to speak with is there that day. If they are not there, you can almost always talk to them within a day or two. Also, you can drop on by after school. So, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

4. Blog
We have reminded all teachers that they need to blog, again, to keep the lines of communication open, especially regarding homework assignments. If there is nothing due, we have encouraged them to at least write in “None” so that you know there isn’t any homework and not that they just didn’t put it on their blog.

5. Showcase
Our student showcase will be on April 16th at 7:00 p.m. This will be the last chance this year for parents to see a sample of our students’ work.

6. Open House
Please remember our next Open House / Info. Night will be Thursday, April 23rd at 7 p.m. If you know of any families interested in attending Woodlands next year, please encourage them to visit us then. Thank you.

8. No School April 24th
There will be no school Friday, April 24th. It was set up as a possible “make-up snow day” but since we have not had any snow day cancelations, we have the day off. Enjoy!

9. Symphony
All students are invited to come to the Symphony on Tuesday, April 28th. We will need parents to help us with the drive to and from the Light Rail station off Lincoln and I-25 that morning and afternoon. The performance will be at 11 a.m., followed by lunch downtown. 10. Solar Car Competition
Middle School students have started working on their solar cars during their Tech class. Some will participate in a Solar Car Competition May 16th. They have won several trophies in past years so the kids are very excited to participate. (More information to come.)

11. Graduation
Graduation has been planned for May 28th.

12. Summer Workshops
Our Summer Workshops have been set for July 20th - 23rd and July 27th - 30th. Specific workshop subjects have not been set yet but they normally run for one hour every day during that two week period.

13. A Warm Welcome
We would like to give a warm welcome to our two newest students, Austin Kelley and Cole Broche. Austin joined us right before Spring Break and Cole joined us just this week.

Thank you.
